The Ethical Aspect of Daoism

This is the website with the passages

This assignment has two parts dealing with the Mystical/Religious Meaning of the Dao and then the Moral/Pragmatic Meaning of the Dao.

For part one select one passage from the collection. They are numbered. Please quote the entire passage. The quotation should be single-spaced. Include the number of the passage. Your paper should be double-spaced as usual. Then explain its meaning in a paragraph. What is the passage saying about the nature of Absolute Reality?

For the second part please select one passage which explain the moral, ethic, and pragmatic meaning of Daoism which can be used to deal with everyday life and our actions in this world. Again, include the entire quotation with the number and then explain each quotation separately.

The paper should be three-four pages, double-spaced.

Due: Monday, Nov. 15.

You may NOT select the following: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 14, 17, 18, 22, 25, and 37.

. Some of the passages dealing with how we should live and relate to others may seem paradoxical. They may refer to actions which seem opposed to each other. However, that is also part of Daoism. Opposite qualities such as long/short or high/low, and opposed actions go together so that a harmony results from their interaction. If you disagree with what the passage asserts, you are free to criticize the ideas. However, I would ask you to indicate why you disagree with the passage.

Again, there are two parts to the paper.

Part I: The Religious/Mystical Aspect of Daoism

Part II: The Ethical Aspect of Daoism
